Luis Enrique Erro, científico y político

Astrónomo y político, fue fundador en 1941 del Observatorio Nacional de Tonanzintla, en Puebla, precursor del Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, óptica y Electrónica (INAOE). Erro fundó la Escuela Nacional Politécnica, antecesora del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN).
Nació el 7 de enero de 1897 en la Ciudad de México. Se desempeño como astrónomo, matemático, escritor, periodista, funcionario de gobierno, diputado federal, presidente del Congreso de la Unión y miembro del Servicio Exterior Mexicano.
Realizó una fecunda labor astronómica, entre la que destaca el descubrimiento de 20 estrellas variables en campos de elevadas latitudes.
Fue director fundador del Observatorio Nacional de Tonantzintla, el cual significó la evolución del estudio astronómico observativo en el campo de la astrofísica, hecho de gran trascendencia para la investigación científica mexicana. Este observatorio fue transformado en el actual Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE).
Además, fue fundador de la Escuela Nacional Politécnica, contribuyendo con sus ideas a la creación del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, (IPN).
En homenaje póstumo, la Unión Astronómica Internacional, designó con el nombre de Erro al cráter de la Luna ubicado en las coordenadas lunares; latitud, 6 grados Norte; Longitud, 98 grados Este.
